Just a quick note: 2 is wrong. There is plenty of life in the deep
sea and on the sea floor, even in the "desert equatorial seas". And
if the breakdown of organics there were disrupted, the cold
nutrient-rich upwellings which today sustain a lot of life near the
coasts, would vanish.
