I know feelings are running high, but George W. Bush is one of the worst
speakers I've ever seen or heard at the national level. He constantly makes
mistakes. He's not convincing in tone or facial expressions. His oratory
skill is nothing to be praised. I really don't see his speeches -- even
this one -- as being one people who have distance from the issues will go
back to. Compare him to FDR, JFK, Reagan, and, yes, Clinton. I'm surprised
he even made it this far, since oratory usually is the hallmark of the
Presidential politician.

That people praise him, to me, is just a sign of misplaced patriotism or
being overwhelmed by the feelings in the wake of the tragedies of 11
September. We should not let such feelings overwhelm our ability to judge
dispassionately.

As to whether Gore could have done better, my guess: probably not. But I'm
sure Clinton would have -- and I didn't and don't like Clinton the man, the
President, or his policies.

Cheers!
