I don't think the choice is a simple binary one. There are many, many other
possibilities.
- Those governing in Israel could be gently persuaded by its allies and
Jews abroad that their current intolerant and inflexible attitude is part
of the sickness that is hurting all of us.
- Countries currently supporting Israel could also give visible and
peaceful support to the Palestinian people.
Those are off the top of my head. I am sure there are many more ingenious,
more peaceful, and more warlike solutions -- I am not particularly smart,
and there are some brilliant minds on this list.
I doubt that forcing a simple choice of "them or us" will be helpful in the
long run.
