I had a nice talk with one of my sisters who was a young child in 1941. She
told about living out on the grandparents farm where the connection with the
rest of the world was a single battery operated radio. Battery time was a
precious resource for them, so they only turned on the radio for specific
programs that the elders had staked out. That Sunday, they all sat around and
ran the battery dead.
That was a transformational time; so is this. I hope that people will spend
less time on rhetoric, and more time connecting to the feelings of friends and
family. Look to history; do better this time.
