The reasoning is largely theoretical. Synchronized sustained attack by
untrained unarmed civilians against armed trained attackers in a cramped
environment is not easy to do.

Since separate-entry pilot compartment will be too costly to design and
retrofit, merely use automatic no-override reinforced door locking of the
flight control compartment will do. For starters, pilots boarding first
and locking the door until passengers leave again and training pilots will
do plenty. I will check on the next flight whether they changed the SOPs
by trying to walk towards the cockpit. If I see the door open I'm going to
file a formal complaint towards the airline.

Recorded video feed from passenger section to cockpit is another item to
retrofit.
