Seriously, please consider the case that at least part of the upper
class uses part of the lower class tactically, to keep everyone else
under control. If you were rich and powerful and obsessed about
maintaining that power, from which class would you recruit your
henchmen, enforcers, bodyguards? From which class would a few servings
of wealth ensure continuous loyalty? I consider it likely that some of
the upper class wants exactly what you say they don't want. Perhaps we
might consider the poor as shock troops for hire. They're plentiful and
cheap!
