Actually, this is a sensible position to reach, since `human duplication'
(prior to uploading) is not in prospect, and clearly has nothing to do with
cloning, unless it already holds for twins and higher n-tuples who must
therefore be a disgraceful affront to nuns and monks.

But the Buddhist nuns and monks can set their minds at rest. It has just
been Revealed to me that the soul is transmitted via the mitochondria, and
hence only along the maternal line. This is bad news for patriarchs,
however, and does raise some pretty problems for children born with a blend
of mitochondria from two or more women.
