There are lots of weak machines and slow lines in the 3rd world, and
portable systems are typically pretty thin, too. There's definitely sense
into making lean pages.

Or, you could use a distributed peer to peer architecture, which
distributes frequently used content over several nearby machines, putting
Akamai out of business.
