"Relaying denied" means that the mail-server receiving the mail does not
believe that the sender or the receiver are authorized to use that server.
This is to keep spammers from sending mail from their machines to the
recipients machines by going through an unrelated third party. This can be
caused if your e-mail server requires a login before accepting mail and your
PC software is not configured with the right login and password. I
sometimes get this when I am at a client site and access the Internet
instead of dialing my local ISP directly.
Are you sending e-mail from your PC to the HotMail server? They will accept
mail for Hotmail accounts only. If you are logged into HotMail, you can
send mail to anywhere from Hotmail. They will not accept e-mail at HotMail
that is addressed to another site. (This may be a new policy as Microsoft
plans to limit MSN users to using only Microsoft e-mail clients.)
Try:
- sending e-mail to extropians from the HotMail webpage interface
- putting your HotMail login and password in your e-mail client
- changing your outgoing mail server to your ISP's server instead of
HotMail's server
