Whenever you are surprised by this sort of thing, keep reminding
yourself that the TV networks are in the business of selling
advertising. The faked-moon-landing show sold jillions of
dollars worth; it was a tremendous success.
Do not be put off by this, for the money-above-all-else attitude
of the news media helps to instill cynicism and skepticism in the
very young, so that they dont believe anything, which in the long
run makes them think things out themselves, and learn the science
behind how we *know* men did actually walk on the moon. Next
season Fox or Nova could run a show regarding the corner cube
mirrors the astronauts left behind, and how one can bounce
signals off of it, etc. They could explain how photos can be
pulled to overexpose parts and underexpose other parts of the
same photo.
Think of the faked-landings show as demonstrating how easy it
is to make the proletariat believe something really weird. In the
long run Fox may help strike a blow against superstition. And
sell a jillion dollars worth of advertising while doing it. {8-] spike
