Mensa is about IQ, not intelligence. Mensa focuses on the importance of
having a high IQ. It is intelligent for some people to join Mensa.
There they will tend to have a higher probability of meeting other
people who can understand their position on various points (IQ does
correlate well with sophisticated verbal symbol manipulation). Also,
there they are likely to find others with similar social skills, who are
also looking to find someone. (IQ, or at least considering IQ
important, has an inverse correlation with social skills.)

Why would you expect it to be about anything else? IQ (beyond a certain
minimum) doesn't independantly correlate with political sensitivity, or
social conscience. Certainly not with social skills. But the
possessors remain humans, with typical human needs. If it's not for you
(it wasn't for me) then just don't go there.
