If you have the tech to stay alive for so long, it allows you also to keep
your edge, if you so chose. If it increases your fitness, it's good. If it
doesn't, you'll be culled from the herd, anyway.

I see the point of locking in a bad local minimum, but you can always walk
away from a bad pocket -- space is big.
