Yes, indeed. I was known as a futurist far longer than an extropian. In
fact,
the reason I came to transhumanist ideas, especially the extropian philosophy,
was because I am a futurist. Now, herein, there are several
interpretations of
futurist. John Naisbitt is a futurist, as is Alvin Toffler. Also, Faith
Popcorn is a self-proclaimed futurist. All these individuals write and
lecture
about the future. FM-2030 was a futurist whose voice was far more radical and
far future than those mentioned above. I fit in the latter category. While I
give talks as a futurist, I do it from the prospective of cultural changes,
rather than economic forecasts. A futurist is not limited by how far he or
she
projects, or in what specific professional domain he or she views the coming
advances. Today, most of the engagements I receive for talks and for press
are
based on the state of the art (literally) future of the human, superlongevity,
and culture.

As a futurist, the organization that satisfied my professional and
intellectual
needs is Extropy Institute.
