Not in Australia (we have land area roughly equal to continental US).
Our stupid politicians have been trying to reverse our cultural cringe for
decades... with only marginal success. Most Australians will choose
English/US/European/Asian products or personalities over Oz ones every
time. Personally I think our cultural cringe has been very healthy for our
world outlook, though it has been hard on our scientists, artists,
musicians, and writers.
Australians who are nationalistic become a source of much sniggering. I can
hardly say the name "Bruce Ruxton" without guffawing. And how could anybody
be proud of a country that has a little twit like John Howard as prime
minister? :-D
Cheers,

Q. What is the similarity between an elephant and a grape?
A. They are both purple... except for the elephant.
