All,
As an Irishman I'm not versed in guns or the gun debate to any great
degree, but I have read a book a while back that would certainly illuminate
when it comes to discussing the psychological effects of killing and violence.
It's called "On Killing: The Psychological cost of learning to kill in War
and Society", 1995, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, Back Bay Books, ISBN 0-316-33011-6
It's at amazon at;
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0316330116/o/qid=969928416/sr=2-2/104
-0228210-1653522
I picked this up in one of those 3 quid sell off bins in those small
bookstores you find in the mall. Coming from a non-gun culture (we put
away our arms in 1922) I found this book to be an absolute education, and
at times very moving. While it can be a little anecdotal at times, and I'm
don't concurr completely with his final extrapolation, what little I've
read since hasn't contradicted the basis of his work.
Regards,
James...
