Yeah. Probably has something to do with the fact that they are in the
*military* and disorderly conduct and the like will quickly get you some
brig time. Not to mention the fact that if you are not into teamwork while
doing sub duty you run the risk of living something akin to the recent Kursk
nightmare.

Plus there's the hostage syndrome. You know, Patty Hearst becoming an SLA
revolutionary, etc. People isolated in close quarters for long periods of
time tend to bond (if they don't kill each other first).
