SATURN'S RACE

I've recently finished reading the recent hardcover release of "Saturn's
Race"....a colaboration by two of my favorite authors....Niven and Barnes.

The story is set in the very near future (2010 or so?). Human
Augmentation....neural interfaces..life extention....global population
concerns ....and interestingly enough many of the themes from the Millenium
Project are explored. (floating islands made of sea-crete and OTEC power
generation)

THE DYING LIGHT: Evergence

This is the second of a trilogy...I missed the first one. The authors are
Williams and Dix from Australia.

The time frame is waaaaaaaaaaaaay in the future....a quarter of a million
years or so. Many transhuman topics are mentioned such as trancendence
(High Humans), nanotech (albiet breifly) and Sentient Artificial
Intelligence.

I was very interested in the tech...but to be brutally honest I thought the
story telling was a little lame....but I think I'm gonna get the first one
(Prodigal Sun) anyway...<it wasn't THAT bad>

As always Niven and Barnes write a good yard....I spent several enjoyable
hours reading it.

Recommended.
