I have not seen the Newsweek article. Beside economic influences, diet is one of the biggest factors. Most studies show that Asians live the longest, but studies of Asians who have moved to the U.S. and adopted a U.S. diet show that their longevity drops to average U.S. levels. Although race could easily be a factor, diet and then economics are much larger factors that are hard to exclude from such studies.
