Thanks Craig. To pre-empt anyone who might compare my aphorism to the boys in Littleton as boys who waded through a lot of shit and didn't seem to have much character:

People are like iron. Tempered in the furnace and hammered on the anvil of life's experience, one either becomes like steel or shatters. Today's society only seems to care about turning out 'pig iron' for people, wishing to protect us from rather than prepare us for the tempering process which so many try to deny exists.
