While we're guessing at his motives...perhaps he was tired of making his point in backwater Michigan, and wanted to move into a national judicial arena.
I think it's reasonable to assume that he will take this matter to the highest court that will hear it, and that he will not spend a single day in jail while that appeal process is in progress.
