Never? Never is a long time. You shouldn't give up any time
soon, or at least not during the next few million years. It
seems to me that legitimate strivings (that is, those you
intrinsically desire, not, for example mere fame or fortune),
become a glad end in themselves.
Things have just started; stick around if you can, and don't
give up. Even your aspirations and desires will themselves
evolve.
