A bold prediction of a 20 fold improvement in miniaturization was made
in the magazine Popular Mechanics in 1949.

 "Where a calculation on the ENIAC requires 18,000 vacuum tubes and
  weighs 30 tons, computers in the future may have only 1000 vacuum tubes
  and weigh only 1.5 tons."
