Dunno, if this is about numerics, I'd consider a mix of
extending/embedding Python. Java compilers are no good at numerics,
however high the hype. Or Apache mod_python. Could even imbed
Python into your HTML, both server-side and otherwise.
Java is rather underwhelming in relation to the amount of hype
it receives, plus currently you can't get any clueful Java
people at affordable rates (so the recession can't be all that bad).
