Why not just calling them gods? It's a pretty accurate description, as
they go.

Where's the difference? Sufficiently advanced simulation is
indistinguishable from reality.

I don't see any point in try looking for artifacts or deliverately
inserted clues, it looks like a waste of time. Drop me a line in case you
