John, while I - in accordance with the "adult human male" defaults -
would enjoy (or imagine I would enjoy) having a reputation for
ruthlessness and implacability, I must in all honesty inform you that I
do not have such a reputation. I don't even have such a personality.
I'm not from Special Circumstances. I'm from Contact. I may be a
do-gooder running around trying to meddle with the fates of
civilizations, but so far I've been able to do it on morally unambiguous
terms.
