Actually, Dr. Hugo de Garis was doing this long before Bill Joy arrived
on the scene. They do seem to exemplify a common style, though. Deep,
portentous statements are intoned, but you get the impression that it's
all just a game to them, like they're doing it because they enjoy
getting in front of television cameras and acting concerned. If either
of them really care about preventing the holocausts they foresee,
there's no visible sign of it. Their futuristic projections/remedies
are so utterly unrealistic that they seem to be selected more for
dramatic impact than any trace of realism. Relinquishment? Cosmists
versus Terrans? What planet did these guys grow up on?
