Please do not take this as me attempting to be confrontational or generate a
flame war but what relevance does J. Edgar Hoover's status in American history
have to do with the subject discussions for which this list was intended? I do
not dispute that historical perspective is often important in charting future
pathways. However, I do not see how a consensus on Hoover's place in American
history one way or the other provides salient insight into the future and the
objectives of this list.
If you disagree I would like to hear how this subject does have relevance to
this list. This same message could be directed to the recent Clinton
discussion we had and probably to my own post on Armey's tax philosophy
yesterday.
