Recent events involving a certain cult got me to thinking about the
concept of transcendence, and how religious organizations tend to use
the term in one way and transhumanists in another.

I hereby propose the following definition to be added to Anders'
glossary pages:

Transcendence: Transformation of the identity, body, or mind into
a more evolved or more complex state through processes consistent with
the physical laws of the universe. To be distinguished from the
spiritual concept of transcendence, which implies movement of the soul
into higher planes of existence.
