Not surprising, as, like Britain, the country had a long socialist
tradition which has been increasingly dismantled in the last couple of
decades; in fact I think that New Zealand has gone much further as the
British government mostly seem to be hoping that if they starve public
services of money for long enough they'll 'wither away' rather than
actively abolishing them. Many people who benefitted from socialism don't
seem to like this.
