Maybe because the issue of gender is not so inconsequential to many
persons as you might think. Otherwise, simple statements would not
strike nerves. I've been through a lot of hell on both transhumanist
lists simply for assertively posting on them as a woman (come-ons,
threats, statements that women aren't welcome here, hate mail). I've
also had the opportunity to 'meet' transhumans who helped me to stand up
to the attempts at intimidation and who won't allow simple human
prejudice to be dressed up in flimsy
memetic/intellectual/philosophical cloaks.

That's what this is all about, Shaun. I look forward to the day when I
can burn all of my gender-studies books. I'll invite everyone to a
bonfire, we can roast marshmallows and sing extropian songs.
