server and client, source code only though (ie not the data .md2 files,
same as they did with quake1 and doom)
the id release is at ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/source/quake2.zip
but since it's not the friendliest compile on linux, you might want to
get relnev's release from http://icculus.org/~relnev/main.php
You might also be interested in the red/blue glasses patch. I haven't
tried it myself, but it reportedly works nicely but slowly, since it
uses the software renderer. it can be found at:

For a better documented system, you might want to have a look at crystal

Definitely work in progress, and quite slow progress at that, but if you
haven't checked the cally demo, you might want to have a look at it
(very nice looking skeletal based character animation you can use for
