One effect I've found is that the more you cut of the prior posts from
the conversation, the more frequently you get new people jumping into
the middle of the debate with retorts which have been previously
addressed, and misconstruing the statements that were made, which
requires that people reiterate prior posts. This results actually in
higher list traffic and more bandwidth waste.
