FYI, the SL4 mailing list will hold its first chat on Saturday, courtesy
of the Extropy Institute, which is allowing us to use their IRC server.
Our chat room will be #sl4. If you're interested in meeting the folks who
hang out on SL4, drop by after 5:30PM EST (2:30PM PST).
(Please note, though, that SL4 moderation may also apply to the IRC
channel. Or not. I don't know yet whether real-time communication will
need moderation in the same way as email. The point is that SL4 is a
"topic focus" list rather than a "free speech" list, and there may be some
moderation of the chat as well. In particular, SL4 usually prefers to
focus on advanced topics rather than rehashing the basics.)
To participate via a standard IRC client, connect to "extropy.org" on a
standard IRC port (for example, 6667), and join channel #sl4.
To participate through Java applet on ExI's pages, point your browser at
http://www.extropy.org/bbs/
and pick one of the IRC applets shown there. Once you're in, type
/join #sl4
since we aren't listed among the available chatrooms.
There's a bare possibility that you may be able to log in via Java applet
at
http://sysopmind.com/sl4chat/
but I haven't been able to get this working yet.
Thanks again to the Extropy Institute for letting us use their IRC server!
