I don't know how taxes work in Australia, but in the United states
the notion that the well-to-do do not pay taxes is urban myth.
The top 5% of wage earners in this country pay 50% of all taxes
with the next 45% paying almost all the remaining 50%. Nearly 50%
don't pay almost anything.
