Celera Genomics races ahead

Deal with feds, Compaq provides edge in protein research

Jan. 23 — Celera Genomics emerged as the big winner last year in the race
to sequence the human genome. Now it appears that the company is at the tip
of the next wave of growth for biotechnology companies: protein research —
the discovery of what proteins actually do, which is where disease actually
happens.
