I would rather see research into how to "copy" brain algorithms.
If and when cloning technology for humans becomes a reality
(it already seems to be at the point where it would work). It
would be much more useful to clone a new and younger body
and transfer the memories and experiences of the old person
into the brain of the new old person...the question remains
whether the person would really still be "me" or not.
