This little applet attempts to map out some of the strategic alliances
between internet businesses:

I find the little web mapped here to be very incomplete, as a lot of
companies are left out entirely, but it gives you an idea. Note, for
example, Ask Jeeves, which licenses its search technology to Alta Vista,
which in turn allows Ask Jeeves to metacrawl Alta Vista, even though both
are competing with the other to provide the best search results. (This
isn't represented at the above URL - one of many omissions.)
