Umm, yes, but there's more. Some parts of what is labeled emotional
intelligence have to do with increasing the likelihood that you won't be
set upon by townspeople with torches, or that you'll be more able to
persuade. Those are material contributions, but not to "smartness" in
the local sense. You probably know this. :)
